What's in the Water by Listeria-Lynnosis What's in the Water by Listeria-Lynnosis
I chose to enter this into the "New Beginnings in Nature" contest as this is a photograph of some of the earliest life on our planet. Life on Earth began with microscopic organisms living in the water, which is exactly what these are. This culture specifically can also be considered "new beginnings" as I took the sample of water and allowed the organisms in there to grow into full colonies. Thousands and thousands of cells came from the handful I placed on the agar plate.

.......

Unidentified, aquatic, microbial life that had been growing on an agar plate for five days. Sample of water was taken from a local pond to examine the diversity and density of microorganisms in the water. Yummy.

This photograph was taken by my Canon S3IS through the ocular (eyepiece) of a standard dissecting microscope. The view was set at 40x, and the camera was in macro mode of course.

Nothing has been edited in this photo, other than cropping/resizing.

I'll uncropped photo of the slide can be seen in my scrapbook here

Thank you! I wish I could say I had anything to do with the color but that's just what the bacteria colony looked like! Haha :)
